原文: Being called Ginger myself I've had nothing but compliments on the name! Times have moved on and most people have uncommon names so it'd be pretty exhausting to make fun of each and every one, hence why nobody does. I love having a name not many other people have.
原文: Being named Ginger myself, as an adult I have come to appreciate it. As a kid I hated it. It's a nice enough girl's name, just any parents considering it should be aware of a few things... Your daughter could be called "Gingervitis" all the time in elementary school. It's just a fact of life. So please coach her on handling that in advance. I really wish I had had some snappy comebacks as a kid but you're not exactly your wittiest at the age of 7. Ah well. Too late for me but not for your kid!Be prepared to frequently be asked if that's her actual legal name. Most people expect it to be a nickname of Virginia. And if she happens to be a redhead as well (I know), when she says her name, people will give her the scrutinizing squint wondering if she's telling the truth or giving a pseudonym. So a Ginger Ginger may get awkward at times, other times hilarious. On the bright side, it's unique. Only a couple other times in my life have I run into another Ginger in New England. It's such a rare event I wondered if we were expected to go highlander or something (There can be only one!). So for both better and worse, it makes a girl more memorable. Teachers/neighbors remember forever the few times I got in trouble as a kid. But I've never had an issue finding a job as an adult. Anecdotally, I seem to get more resume call backs than my friends with similar skills/experience. It's easy to spell and pronounce! I've met folks whose parents tried to make their name unique with alternative spelling or pronunciation. It gives them never-ending headaches with bills, doctor's offices, anything with an account in a database system. I've NEVER had to deal with that thank goodness. So unique enough to be remembered but well-known enough to be straight forward.
原文: Not sure if this is a "southern" name, but it's not uncommon in Iowa where I've met a few. Mostly, though, I see it on pets like our cat whose full name is actually Gingersnaps.
原文: My name is Ginger. I love my name. I am happy to have people associate my name with Ginger Rodgers and Ginger from Gilligan's Island. I wish I had been born a redhead like my grandma but I am a brunette. I am not a Southerner. I am a Westerner. The handful of Ginger's I have known are all from Idaho like me.
原文: This is my name, I have never really been fond of it. And I often get told "I used to have a dog/cat named Ginger". It also has an old lady feel to me. I never thought it was a "cute" name growing up.
原文: Apparently this is starting to be considered a slur against redheads. I've heard some express their feelings about being called "a Ginger" or a "gingy" ("gin-gee"). So I would never use it as a name... not that I like it anyways.

原文: I love the name "Ginger". But I`d only use it for my daughter, if she had ginger hair.
原文: Bah! I love this name. It's sweet, gentle and just sounds pleasant. I like names with several nickname options. I'd love to use this for a future daughter and nickname her Ginnie to honor her Great Grandmother whose middle name was Virginia and went by Ginny. I like Ginger far better than Virginia. As an added nifty possibility we have many many auburn haired individuals in the family so maybe she'd have auburn hair? Nonetheless, I think this name is adorable!
原文: I have some fondness for this as a nickname due to Ginger Spice from the Spice Girls, but only as a nickname. As a legal name, it sounds a little tacky and trashy, and I agree that it sounds better on pets.
原文: No offense to Ginger Rogers, but this isn't the type of name that I could take seriously on a grown woman. I don't think it sounds trashy so much as it sounds ditzy. It sounds best on a cat. It also has the unfortunate recent connotation of those disgusting overbreeding Duggars, who named one of their 18 kids so far Jinger (which I just can't get myself to pronounce as Ginger).

原文: This is my dog's name! Don't name your kids this! It has too many weird nick-names to go along with it!
原文: I really like this name. It's sweet, spunky, spicy and cute and it's a sexy name for a woman. Remember Ginger in Gilligan's Island. I had a friend named Ginger and maybe that's why I really like this name. Also, it's not too common. For short I'd call her Dindi pronounced Gingi (the G is pronounced the way Zha Zha pronounces her name) - Dindi is the name of a beautiful Brazilian song.
原文: How about Ginger Baker, the drummer from the band Cream? He's the only male I can think of with the name Ginger, and he's a fairly famous bearer of the name.
原文: Cute name, but do not name your daughter Ginger if there is even the slightest possibility that she will be a redhead. After that episode of "South Park", it is impossible to go through school as a redhead named Ginger.
