This was a place name in Genesis of the Bible that means "seen by Yahweh", or in other words, "seen by God." Mariah, "bitter; of the sea; wished for; love", has nothing to do with it, seeing as Mariah is a later form of Mary. Also, Moriah is a Native American word meaning "wind." It's a very lovely, elegant and almost ethereal name.
