原Wow do I have a different opinion of this name than the commenter previous!I recently heard of this name from one of the members of the sketch comedy troupe "The Lonely Island" that also includes comedian Andy Samburg from SNL. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this name.However, it totally does not strike me as a male name, it really strikes me as feminine. Traditionally I have learned this name is pronounced "Yorma" but the way the above-mentioned comedian is referred to, he is pronounced "Jorma" with the same J sound as in "Josh". To ME that rhymes with "Norma" giving it a feminine connotation.I am almost 100% certain that I would name my girl child this, I absolutely love it, and it's definitely SO very unique, it would spice up our very common last name nicely.
原You'd have to be insane to name your son Jorma in Finland today. The name sounds very middle-aged and brings flabby and ugly, unpleasant middle-aged bozos to mind. Now, there are successful men named Jorma in this country, but I can't shake the association to a sleazy, greasy, chubby, annoying guy who gets abusive when drunk when I hear this name (no, not someone I know, just a general impression). Besides, this is just another slang expression for 'penis' in Finland, so it probably will not be used any time soon.
