As a lady before commented about an advert regarding Cadbury's fruit and nut chocolate in the 70's, I was always being associated with being a Hazel nut and many other various comments.I am now in my early 50's and adore my name. I am Scottish and from Inverness and it is a very pagan, Celtic name and I am proud to be known as Hazel. It is in my granddaughter's middle name too as my daughter loves it! I am also a white witch as I love nature and it took me 20 years to realize that my name was meant for me and suits me. 原I love my name! It was my grandmother's name too. A couple weeks ago I met a younger Hazel who was also named after her Grandmother. I love when characters in books or movies or songs are named Hazel. Haha someone mentioned they don't like when Hazel is paired with a second name like Hazel May, Hazel Belle - I think it has a nice ring to it! Pun intended! 原I think this might be my least favorite color name. I can't help but think of a narrow-minded Southern Bible-thumper when I hear it -- ESPECIALLY when combined with another name, like Hazel-Rose, Hazel-May, Hazel-Belle, etc. I don't know where I got this association from, as I used to associate it instead with the main character from the novel "Watership Down," which I loved. But in the book it was the name of a male rabbit. So this, I suppose, is my opinion of the name on a human, ha ha.

原I have a daughter named Hazel (which we chose because it's a lovely nature name, a Bob Dylan song, and a dear great-aunt) and the only critical comments we've received on it have been from old people. Younger generations do not seem to have the negative associations with the cartoon witch or sitcom maid - or even know what those are (Shirley Booth who?). Younger generations are also perhaps being raised to know it's not okay to say, "eww horrid! Ugly! Barf!" about someone or their name. Mean-spirited people will find ways to be nasty no matter what your name might be! We receive many compliments on it being warm, kind, and cheerful - just like our daughter. In short, I think the name is a lot like the tree: sincere and nurturing, yet strong and well-rooted.

原I have a daughter named Hazel (which we chose because it's a lovely nature name, a Bob Dylan song, and a dear great-aunt) and the only critical comments we've received on it have been from old people. Younger generations do not seem to have the negative associations with the cartoon witch or sitcom maid - or even know what those are (Shirley Booth who?). Younger generations are also perhaps being raised to know it's not okay to say, "eww horrid! Ugly! Barf!" about someone or their name. Mean-spirited people will find ways to be nasty no matter what your name might be! We receive many compliments on it being warm, kind, and cheerful - just like our daughter. In short, I think the name is a lot like the tree: sincere and nurturing, yet strong and well-rooted.

Some don't love it or the spelling, but for the most part people seem pleasantly surprised when I tell them her name. Her eyes are still blue - so if her eyes change to Hazel it remains to be seen. But we love the name and have no regrets.
