She was named after my father who died six years before she was born. It is a family name & that means more than someone's opinion on it being a boy's or girl's name! Ultimately, these "-son" names for girls was probably greatly influenced by the decades-long popularity of Alison/Allison.That name (as a first name, anyway) is considered a diminutive of Alice and has little to do with being anyone's "son." However, Madison/Addison/Emerson seem to be following a pattern of taking a somewhat uppercrusty last name (or even male first name) that MIGHT be considered a bit effete as a boy's name in the 21st C.
